About Us
The Magic Cupboard Inc. is a family owned and operated business that began as a hobby many years ago. Today, two generations are working together in the thriving home-based business, which has evolved and grown mainly through word of mouth, since forming the corporation in 2005. A boutique cake studio accepting limited orders, The Magic Cupboard Inc. has earned a reputation for fabulous gourmet cakes, and warm professional service. Clients are passionate about our cakes, not just their unique designs, but also for their delicious taste and moist texture. Each cake is handcrafted from scratch using only the finest and freshest ingredients, and is a delicious piece of confectionary artistry.
Owners and designers Elizabeth and Helen Williams personally meet with every client to discuss the style and theme of their event. We welcome ideas from clients, and frequently take cues from an invitation, a dress, a favorite item or event décor. Our design studio is filled with inspiration in the form of a display gallery, a library of idea books and magazines, and portfolios of our recent work. Consultation appointments include a tasting of sample-sized portions of our scrumptious homemade gourmet cakes.
Meet the Design Team

Elizabeth Williams has enjoyed an incredibly varied career beginning with twenty years of active military service. A self taught visual artist and baker, Liz won awards in the civilian community over the years for her art work, culminating in an invitation from a gallery in Paris to show her drawings and paintings overseas.
|
Still in the military and a busy mother of two, Liz chose to focus on other pursuits at that time, including several advanced college degrees from Boston University and The College of William and Mary, and work with NASA on the space program. Following her retirement from the military, Liz completed the requirements necessary to become a Licensed Professional Counselor and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She then established her private practice, Advanced Therapeutics Inc.
When her daughter-in-law decided to pursue the culinary arts, Liz returned to artistic pursuits through formation of The Magic Cupboard Inc. Her unusual combination of artistic skills and experience enables her to visualize a client’s unique sense of style and ideas for an event, blend them with her own, and bring a new creative design to life in three dimensions, a feast for the eye and palate. It’s truly magic when the ordinary becomes extraordinary!

Helen Williams is a graduate of Christopher Newport University and a busy mother of two young children. After several years of work in the field of psychology as a counselor, she discovered a passion for the culinary arts.
|
For Helen, it all began with her son's first birthday cake, and soon she was creating highly decorated cakes, cookies and candies for her friends and family. Following the birth of her daughter, she honed her cake decorating skills in a local bakery. It wasn't long before she began to dream of establishing her own cake decorating business, where creativity, quality and design would never be sacrificed for mass production. Helen's entrepreneurial spirit and desire to reach the pinnacle of the profession soon resulted in the formation of the Magic Cupboard Inc.
Helen loves the creative process and the challenge of bringing an idea to life. Born and raised as a child in England, she is especially inspired by the designs used by artisans in Europe and other countries around the world. Her philosophy is that highly decorative couture cakes should be on the forefront of unique style and design, as distinctive as the events where they will be displayed and enjoyed. Her goal is to exceed every client’s expectations with delicious show-stopping desserts. The look of joy on a client’s face when they see her creation for the first time lets her know that she has met her artistic goal, and rave reviews after the event confirm that the cake was a culinary masterpiece as well. Helen’s true enthusiasm for pastry and sugar art shine through in her work.
Helen's husband Dustin, a York County Firefighter, frequently assists in his spare time with the creation of hand modeled sugar art pieces used to decorate our cakes. When not on shift as a firefighter, he assists with set up and delivery of our particularly large and heavy cakes as well. And of course, their children have become our resident pastry chefs-in-training!
