When you are ready commit to booking your cake order with The Magic Cupboard Inc., contact us at (757) 826-2160 to schedule a design consultation appointment.  To book your appointment we will need your name, phone number, date and location of the event, and the number of guests you are expecting to serve.  We will inform you of our availability for the date of your event at the time of your call.  On the day of your appointment, you will be meeting with a member of our design team and tasting a selection of some of our most popular cake flavors.  Although there are many cake and filling flavors to choose from, and almost infinite combinations, tasting some of our most popular cake flavor and filling combinations allows you to sample the consistent quality, density, and moisture content of our gourmet recipes.  Each tier of one of our cakes is approximately 4 to 5 inches high with 4 layers of cake and three layers of filling, so keep in mind that if you choose to order one of our decadent cakes as a centerpiece for your event, you will be serving your guests unusually generous slices of cake for dessert.

The base price for all of our cakes is determined by low, medium or high degree of design difficulty.  Design difficulty is determined by the type of construction and amount of intricate skilled artistic or sculptural work; the application and numbers of different colors and lusters, and the type of ornamentation such as handmade jewelry, gumpaste flowers and hand modeled figures. The basic materials necessary to bake, fill, construct and complete cakes at each level of difficulty are included within the base price.  Only applicable rental and delivery fees are priced separately.

We do not have a retail store, and do not sell commercially procured wedding cake toppers or cake jewelry etc.  If a client wants to use commercially procured items, those items need to be brought to the design consultation appointment for consideration during the design process, and provided to us for placement on the cake no later than 30 days prior to the date of service. 

To estimate the price of a cake, simply multiply the estimated number of servings you will require by the base price for a cake at the low, medium or high level of difficulty.  Our minimum bakery order is $200.00.

 We are a Preferred Provider for the Newport News Marriott at City Center.  The Marriott will reimburse The Magic Cupboard Inc. at the agreed upon per serving price multipled by the final head count.  The ordering party is responsible for all fees above the estimated reimbursement from the venue, and the usual deposit is required at the time of booking.

Cake prices begin at $6.50 per serving for low decorative design.  Cakes in this price range have one flavor of cake and one filling flavor throughout.  They are typically finished with a premium fondant icing, and adorned with simple piped decorative frosting details.  Satin ribbons and live flowers are often utilized to provide color and additional elements of design detail.  Examples of cakes in this category can be viewed in our photo gallery under the Traditional Wedding Cake heading. 

Cakes in the medium decorative design price range ($7.50 per serving), also have one cake flavor and one filling flavor throughout.  They are finished with a premium fondant icing, and decorative elements are typically created out of fondant, such as striping, scroll work, monograms, draped fabric effects, bows, and simple flower or leaf designs.  Other decorative accents at this level may include a moderate degree of hand painting using one or two colors or finishes.  Examples of cakes in this category can be viewed in our photo gallery under the Modern Wedding Cakes heading.  Also included in this price range are moderate party cakes pictured in many of our other photo galleries. 

Cakes in the highly decorated range ($8.50 per serving and up) may incorporate the use of different cake flavors and fillings throughout each tier of the cake.  If desired, the tiers may be hand carved and shaped.  The construction of the cake may be atypical and incorporate the use of decorated styrofoam shapes to create whimsical shapes and separations between the tiers.  A cake in this range is finished with a premium fondant icing, and the major decorative elements are also formed out of fondant and gumpaste, creating complex, three dimensional sculptural details.   These cakes typically combine various techniques such as hand modeled figures, piping, painting, and multiple hand applied colors or finishes.  They may also incorporate other skilled techniques such as handmade jewelry to adorn the cake or separators, and create a unique cake topper.  Cakes in this price range require the most expensive materials to bake, fill, support and construct, as well as the most advance ordering and preparation time.  A skilled craftsperson will require many hours of labor, often over a period of days or weeks in advance of the delivery date, to create the various design elements that will ultimately be used in the design of the finished cake.  Cakes in this category can be viewed in the photo gallery under the Couture Wedding Cake heading.

Party cakes with heavy construction requirements such as replicas of vehicles or buildings, and cakes with multiple hand modeling of figures or other objects may be priced higher.  Call the office or send an email for an individualized price quotation for cakes in this category.

 Mini cakes are single serving cakes that are decorated, and served to guests individually.  Mini cakes are priced at the high decorative design point, due to the use of premium fondant to cover each cake, and the increased amount of materials, decorating skill and time necessary to create individually decorated cakes for each guest.  Mini cakes come in 1 tier square or round shapes, a two tier round shape, or a three tier round shape.  One tier mini cakes are $8.50 per serving/cake, and are appropriate only for small events of 75 guests or less.  Two and three tier mini cakes are priced higher, and appropriate for very small events of 25 guests or less.  Standard cake flavors work well as mini cakes, and may be filled with our premium white or dark chocolate buttercream fillings.

Cupcakes are similar to mini cakes in that they are single servings and can be filled, but are iced only on the top of the cake, and require fewer materials and decorative skill.  Cupcakes are priced at the low decorative difficulty range, or $6.50 per serving.

Cookie and candy favors are batch ordered and priced.  A batch of cookies is one dozen, and a batch of candies, truffles, or chocolate covered strawberries is three dozen.  Cookie and candy favors need to be ordered at the time the rest of the order is booked.  For pricing on specific types of favors please call the office. 

For wedding and/or stacked cakes larger than two tiers, delivery is free within the Hampton Roads area, and available for a standard delivery fee to the surrounding areas.  Smaller orders are scheduled for pick up at the design studio. 

There is a $50.00 rental fee for any equipment required for stacking or tiering, and set-up of a cake.  Stacked cakes over two layers will require our rented internal support system.  Mini cakes and cupcakes generally require a rented display stand.  Special fabrics, silver and brass plateaus, and European separators are also an integral part of our rental packages.  The client or their designated representative is responsible for returning rental items to the design studio the week following the date of the event.  Rental equipment is secured at the time of booking with a major credit card.  Full replacement fees will be charged to the credit card for any items lost or damaged.

For orders booked well in advance of a requested date of service, we require a nonrefundable deposit of 50% of the order total at the time of booking.  For orders booked 30 days or less in advance of a date of service, the entire total is due at the time of booking.  Your deposit secures our services for the date of your event. 

Small changes to the design, flavor, or size of the order can generally be accomodated up to 30 days prior to the date of the event.  We may not be able to accomodate major changes that would impact our ability to complete other orders that have already been booked.  Thirty days prior to delivery, in accordance with our contract, the design of the cake is unalterable. 

It should be noted that changes intended to alter the serving size may significantly alter the appearance, structure and design of the cake.  From a design perspective, it is generally better to preserve the design and appearance of the cake you have chosen rather than alter the number of guests it will serve.  You might consider instructing your servers to slice more generously if fewer guests will be attending, or adding a Groom's cake if you find that you need significantly more cake or want an additional flavor or type of cake.  For those who want to honor their guests with special dietary needs, a separate small specialty cake can be ordered.  

Deposits are nonrefundable.  Requests to reschedule an order for delivery on a new date within the same calendar year will be honored contingent upon The Magic Cupboard Inc.'s availability on the new date and execution of a new contract.  There is a grocery restocking fee for orders rescheduled within thirty days of the original contracted delivery date.

A cake slicing guide will be provided by The Magic Cupboard Inc. and should be followed to ensure the cake yields the number of servings agreed upon.  The Magic Cupboard Inc. cannot slice and serve the cake at an event; the responsible party or venue must provide a person to slice and serve the cake(s).  The responsible party or venue is responsible for providing a table(s) for the cake(s).  Table(s) should be assembled, covered, and in place before the agreed upon delivery time.  Once cake(s) is set up on table(s) the table(s) can not be moved.  The Magic Cupboard Inc. is not responsible for any flowers (silk or live) etc. to be used on cake(s) which are provided by a florist or other party.  Bare stems should not be inserted into cakes. 
 
The final design of the cake will be based upon the written description of the order and any attached photos, clippings, sketches and fabric swatches provided.  However, cake design is a form of scuptural art, and no two designs, even by the same artist, will ever be exactly the same as a picture or a previous design by the same or other sugar artist.
 
If color matching is requested and an adequate sample of the fabric or other material is provided, the sugar artist will come as close as possible to the requested color(s) with the food dyes, edible paints, glitters and dusts available, and approved by the FDA for human consumption.  Pigments, dyes and paints used with other materials may not be available in edible form.
 
Cakes will be designed at the discretion of the artist as described above, and within the general guidelines of good cake design.  If the artist is unable to tastefully incorporate all of the requested design elements into the final design of the cake, those design elements that the responsible party indicated were most significant to the overall appearance of the cake and meaning of the event will be utilized.  Other elements may be omitted if the artist decides they would detract from the proper construction, appropriate meaning, or tasteful appearance of the cake. 
 
When cake(s) are picked up or delivered and the responsible party has indicated by their signature that the order is complete, the baked goods are satisfactory and received in good condition, The Magic Cupboard Inc. is no longer responsible for the cake(s). 
 
I understand and agree that a nonrefundable deposit of $______ will be paid today by cash, check, debit or credit card.  I understand and agree that any remaining payment must be made no later than ________(thirty 30 days before the contracted delivery date) and that NO CHANGES can be made within thirty (30) days of the contracted delivery date.  Requests to reschedule a cancelled order for delivery on a future date in the same calendar year are contingent upon The Magic Cupboard Inc.'s availability on that date, and the execution of a new contract.  Orders cancelled thirty days or less prior to the original contracted delivery date are subject to a restocking fee upon rescheduling.
 
I agree to the above contract conditions and understand that by my signature I am commissioning an original work of sculptural sugar art from The Magic Cupboard Inc., and that the artist retains creative control over the structure and final design of the cake.  I certify that I have communicated the aspects of the design and appearance of the cake that are most important, and understand that some other elements may be omitted if the artist decides they would detract from the proper construction, appropriate meaning, or tasteful appearance of the cake.

Suggested Cake Flavors

Vanilla Creme Cake:  Our traditional rich yellow butter cake flavored with vanilla and filled with white chocolate buttercream.

Vanilla Berry Zinger:  Our traditional rich yellow butter cake flavored with vanilla and filled with alternating layers of white chocolate buttercream and your choice of fresh berry fillings.

Tres Leches:  Our traditional rich yellow butter cake flavored with vanilla or rum and brushed with a mixture of three different milk products.  The three milks, when combined, create just the right sweetness and density for a rich vanilla flavored cake.  We fill this cake with our white chocolate buttercream.  For a Quatro Leches cake, we alternate white chocolate buttercream with Dulce de leche.

Caribbean Rum Cake:  Our traditional rich yellow butter cake flavored with rum and filled with dark chocolate rum flavored buttercream.

Almond Creme Cake:  Our traditional rich yellow butter cake flavored with almond and filled with almond scented white chocolate buttercream.

Almond Berry Zinger:  Our traditional rich yellow butter cake flavored with almond and filled with alternating layers of almond scented white chocolate buttercream and your choice of fresh berry fillings

Lemon Creme Cake:  Our rich lemon butter cake filled with white chocolate buttercream.

Tropical Lemon Cake:  Our rich lemon butter cake filled with alternating layers of white chocolate buttercream and your choice of tangy lemon, lime, orange, or pineapple curd fillings.

Tropical Coconut Cake:  Our rich coconut cream cake filled with alternating layers of white chocolate buttercream and lemon or pineapple curd.  For a twist, we fill this cake with a creamy coconut-pineapple pecan filling for a delightful taste of the tropics.

Paradise Carrot Cake:  Our carrot cake is absolutely delicious with coconut, pineapple, and southern pecans.  We fill this cake with a pineapple and coconut cream cheese buttercream.  For something different, this cake is equally wonderful filled with a chocolate cream cheese buttercream.

Chocolate Truffle Cake:  Our dense dark chocolate sour cream cake is so rich and smooth it literally glides over the tongue.  For a traditional chocolate cake we fill it with a white or dark chocolate buttercream.  For a more decadent flavor, we fill this cake with chocolate chip buttercream, chocolate peanut butter cup buttercream, or coconut praline buttercream to make this cake a candy lover's delight.

Minted Chocolate Truffle Cake:  Our dense dark chocolate truffle cake lightly scented with mint or peppermint and filled with alternating layers of white chocolate buttercream and Andes Creme de Menthe Chip filling for a cool refreshing after dinner treat.

Chocolate Berry Zinger:  For a sinfully elegant dessert, we alternate layers of our rich chocolate truffle cake with dark chocolate buttercream and your choice of fresh fruit fillings.

Grand Marnier Cake: Our rich dark Chocolate Truffle cake scented with orange flavoring and filled with alternating layers of orange curd and orange scented dark chocolate buttercream.
